How many people who played EarthBound had friends who had already played it and decided it wasn't that great, and how many had friends who didn't even know what it was? From the topics I tend to see on how many people have tried to influence their friends to play it, I'm betting the percentage leans toward the latter.īut you're talking about EarthBound (should that not have been released in the U.S. If more people had played and said "its not that great", I'd probably be less inclined to play it, and would take the game with a pinch of salt. Its not unusual for anothers' opinion to lead your own if Omnitarian hadn't hyped the games for me to play them a second time I'd probably feel differently. Because it was never released it feels like I'm a part of something almost exclusive, and I can base my opinion freely.
Had everyone heard about the series and played them all, it wouldn't be anywhere near as much of a big deal. Even happier when other people recognise the name rather than say "What's that then?" And moreso when those people turn around and mention how hardcore and cult-like the fanbase is (The guy in Blockbuster mentioned it). Which is why I'm happy to be one of the few who have actually played the games for a start. And I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. I like MOTHER 3 as well now we have it but its not why I'm such a devoted fan. EarthBound is the one that hasn't, and I still wait for the day I get to play it on a console all legitimate and not have people say "Hey, what's that game?" Yet if I'd had that all along, I'd likely get pulled astray by the sheer amount of people, (I put off playing Twilight Princess simply to not have my opinion forced to a bias), a good number of which would probably say "Its not that great" and I probably wouldn't have read so far into it.ĮDT: You should also bear in mind that not everyone here was desperate for Mother 3. The amount of things I've read into as deep (probably deeper than they really are) and let slide is nearly uncountable. I was kept (with the first two) because there was something deep there when I read into it, and I was kept along because of the mangas and fanbase. I was drawn in because its a game I'd never seen, never heard of, but it still managed to piqué my interests.
I tune that out, now, because for the most part if a sequel comes a sequel comes.
